2011 Tonella Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Vintage   |  2012 2011 2010

Ruby red in color with aromas of spicy strawberry and candied walnuts moving into slight clove and pencil lead. As the wine opens up, the nose is hints of red fruit transitioning into a touch of smoke and dustiness. On the palate, the wine is flavorful, full of fresh strawberry moving into a chewy, rustic red berry/red fruit finish. Currently Sold Out

The grapes came from the first new plantings of our Tonella Vineyard. The Tonella estate vineyard in Rutherford is divided into 17 unique rootstock and clonal blocks, which are further divided in different sections depending on ripeness. The Cabernet franc was picked October 13, 2011, between 25 and 25.2 brix. The Cabernet sauvignon was picked October 18-24, 2011, between 24.5 and 25.0 brix. The fruit was cluster sorted before undergoing a two-day cold soak. After inoculation with a French yeast strain, the wine underwent small-batch fermentation, with gentle pumpovers 2-3 times each day. The wine then underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel, and was racked twice before bottling in June 2013. The wine aged in our cellar until its release in October 2015.
