Final Vintage:
2019 HENRY BROTHERS VINEYARD

This release marks our final wine from this special Howell Mountain vineyard.

Local St. Helena doctor Brian Henry, who helped deliver many of the children of Napa Valley winemaking royalty, felled the trees for this northeastern-facing vineyard with his three sons. Their family goes back three generations in the Napa Valley. This beautiful vineyard once sat between other Howell Mountain heavyweights, Dunn and Duckhorn. After a long partnership with Sequoia Grove, and following the 2019 harvest, the Henry family divested the vineyard and it is currently under redevelopment. For the first time ever, this wine is unfiltered to give maximum site expression and minimal winemaker intervention.

The Last Vintage

This final vintage of our Howell Mountain red opens with layers of blue and black fruits, with ripe plum at the forefront, balanced by a subtle hint of green peppercorn. This blend includes select Cabernet clones and Merlot grown high above the fog line in iron-rich, volcanic soil. On the palate, savory notes of peppercorn, blackberry, and a touch of cola create a rich, structured wine with bold flavors and a lasting finish. 92 Points, Jeb Dunnuck

HOWELL MOUNTAIN

Where Nature’s Majesty Meets the Art of Winemaking

Howell Mountain, perched high above Napa Valley, offers breathtaking views that seem to stretch endlessly across the horizon. The crisp mountain air, the gentle rustling of vines in the breeze, and the golden hues of the sun setting behind rolling hills create a sense of peace and serenity that is unlike anywhere else. From this elevated vantage point, the world feels distant, and yet the land beneath your feet feels alive with the stories of the grapes that thrive here. Howell Mountain’s vineyards are cradled by nature, producing wines that carry the unique intensity of the rugged terrain. It’s a place where time slows down, and every moment feels connected to the beauty around you, a place that invites you to pause, reflect, and savor the richness of life.

GRAPES

71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot

The Cabernet Sauvignon, which grows on the knoll, usually remains in full sun during the growing season, but the elevation and the northeast exposure provides some cooling, allowing the many different clones to reach their full maturity slowly. The Merlot, at the base of the knoll, can be in fog or sun, depending on the day, and gives some blueberry richness to the finished blend.

HARVEST & WINEMAKING

The 2019 vintage was an excellent vintage with tonnage levels close to average. The year began with heavy rains in winter, followed by a few spring showers. Summer weather was moderate and ideal. Outside of anticipated heat spikes in August and September, conditions during harvest were also mild and lovely. The lack of typical morning fog during the growing season seemed to speed phenolic ripeness. The 2019 vintage is high quality, with a signature of freshness, generosity of fruit, and lush tannins.
