2021 Cambium

The 2021 Cambium opens with a vibrant and multi-layered aroma. Featuring layers of caramelized sugar, blackberry, boysenberry, and bright red fruit, complemented by notes of baking spice, cigar box, and herbal rosemary. Hints of vanilla, pie crust, candied orange peel, raspberry, and rose petals add depth and complexity. On the palate, the wine is plush and polished with a silky texture and a weighted entry. Juicy pomegranate and ripe black plum are supported by a strong mineral core and clay-driven earthiness. Notes of baking spice and dark cocoa unfold through the mid-palate, while powdery, fine-grained tannins provide structure and a long, elegant finish.

Lastly, the 2021 Red Blend Cambium checks in as a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend (there’s 7% Petit Verdot) that was brought up all in new barrels. Red and black fruits, iron, tobacco, and truffly earth notes all make an appearance in the nose, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless, layered mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. I’d be thrilled to drink a bottle any time over the coming decade.

Selected and blended from the winery’s top lots, Sequoia Grove’s 2021 Cambium is a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Petit Verdot, all aged in 100% new French oak. Aromas of black cherries and vanilla lead the way—there’s nice ripeness here, no obvious green shadings at all. Full-bodied, it’s somewhere between silky and velvety in texture and nicely balanced, with ample length on the finish. It’s a terrific all-around effort.

The 2021 Cambium, 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Petit Verdot, is deep garnet-purple in color. It explodes with bombastic notes of plum preserves, creme de cassis, and blackberry pie followed by suggestions of Indian spices, incense, and fragrant soil. Full, rich, and opulent in the mouth, the palate is filled with velvety tannins and seamless freshness to back up the fragrant fruit, finishing long and perfumed.
